World War I brought nations against each other. In this picture, it shows the toll that the war had on the many lives that fought in it. People all across the world, were excited, scared, and proud to be enlisting in the army. Some thought that by enlisting and serving their country, it would allow them to have a bigger chance in winning the war and getting the prize that they deserve. Although, they did not know that many of those people would lose their lives. This picture is so horrific. The vast amount of crosses that represent a person who died in the war is way too big. In the picture, the crosses in the back are in such a big clump that it just looks like a big blob of white. By looking at this picture, I can understand that that World War I was the first fight that cost too many innocent lives, and took a heavy toll on all the nations. World War I, a war that brought everyone together, thus ripping everyone apart. Many have perished, and those who survived will still be reminded of the horrors of the war.

U.S.S. Maine

The MAINE in drydock at Hunter's Point, 1908
Source:

This is a picture of the U.S.S. Maine that was sent to Havana, Cuba. As you can see, this was a picture of the workers prepping the Maine before it left the docks. The U.S. sent the Maine to Cuba because they wanted to ensure the protection of American lives and property. Then, on February 15, 1898 the Maine was destroyed by an explosion. This explosion was one of the many big events that started the Spanish-American War. The Yellow Press intervened with the explosion and posted a slogan, calling for a war against Spain saying, "Remember the Maine!".

Overall, The Maine, had a very big impact against America. Some people thought that the Spanish were the ones who planned to bomb the Maine. The people had thought that an underwater mine was the cause of this, and that the Spanish planted it for the Maine to cross. Although, there was no proof that it was actually the Spanish, people still pushed the blame upon them. The Maine, was the ship that pushed America into becoming one of the world's great powers.
